United Kingdom boosts military housing renovation

4 de November de 2025

The United Kingdom is launching a £9 billion investment to modernize and build new homes on defense land, in the largest military housing renovation program in more than half a century.

A “generational” renovation of the military housing stock

The British government has unveiled the Defence Housing Strategy 2025, a £9 billion investment plan to transform the Armed Forces’ housing stock and free up land for 100,000 new homes on Ministry of Defense land. The program represents the largest military housing renewal in more than 50 years.

The strategy contemplates the modernization, rehabilitation or reconstruction of more than 40,000 housing units for military personnel and their families, with the improvement of kitchens, bathrooms and heating systems. According to the Executive, this action responds to decades of underfunding that had deteriorated the quality of housing for army families.

A commitment to construction and economic growth

In addition to improving the living conditions of military personnel, the strategy has a clear economic component. The Ministry of Defense plans to promote the use of surplus land for residential projects that will benefit both civilian and military families.

The plan includes the creation of a Defence Development Fund, a fund aimed at reinvesting the profits obtained from the sale of land in future developments, thus generating a self-sustaining cycle of investment and construction.
