Vocational Training is consolidating its position as a strategic pillar for the green transition in Spain, by providing the necessary talent demanded by the productive sectors undergoing transformation.
The Observatory of Vocational Training in Spain has published its 2025 report, prepared by CaixaBank Dualiza together with Orkestra-Basque Institute of Competitiveness, which identifies for the first time the green skills essential to ensure an effective ecological transition. The study, based on the OCOM-FPVERDE model, reveals that more than 60of the country’s priority green occupations in the country are directly dependent on VET degrees.
This fact positions VET as a strategic driver of strategic driver of productive transformation and reinforces its key role in territorial and social cohesion. The report identifies a total of 312 green competenciesgrouped into knowledge and skills, fundamental for professional development within the 60 tractor training cycles analyzed.
The report is structured around 14 strategic value chains with a direct impact on the green transition, including key industry sectors such as energy, construction, agri-food, waste management, transportation and manufacturing. In all of them, the adoption of new environmental regulations, process digitalization and automation are transforming professional profiles.
Among the most sought-after skills in these sectors are the following waste managementwaste management, energy energy savingenergy saving, water quality water quality control and compliance with environmental and occupational safety legislation. These competencies are directly linked to many of the industrial activities of AMEC companies.
The study proposes an urgent urgent curriculum revision The company also emphasizes the importance of training cycles to incorporate these green competencies, especially in industrial sectors with high environmental intensity. It also highlights the importance of upskilling and green reskilling for active workers, favoring the adaptation of existing talent to new production requirements.
To this end, it is proposed to strengthen the green dual vocational training and to develop a transversal module on sustainabilityadapted to each cycle.
